5 March 2024, 14:30-15:30
In our webinar on 5 March, DFRLab’s Roman Osadchuk guided us through an investigation that uncovered the largest information operation on TikTok to date pushing disinformation about Ukraine.
A joint investigation by DFRLab and BBC Verify revealed a large network of fake TikTok accounts that spanned thousands of videos and hundreds of thousands of subscribers that garnered millions of views. The multi-language operation targeted Ukrainian officials, including zelenskyy_official and former Ukranian defense minister Oleksii Reznikov, accusing them of funneling aid to purchase luxury goods. TikTok confirmed the scale of the operation and attribution to Russia. While the disinformation originated on TikTok, it quickly spread to other platforms and pro-Kremlin media around the world.
