The PERISCOPE project aims to:
- strengthen civic engagement and democratic participation through inclusive, open-access resources
- promote responsible and informed use of AI in the context of information integrity
- counter disinformation, foreign information manipulation (FIMI), and gendered hate speech across borders
- build media literacy and critical thinking skills among citizens, educators, journalists, and youth
The project responds to documented gaps in digital media literacy, declining press freedom, and eroding public trust in institutions across partner countries. Drawing on the EU’s strategic priorities – including the European Democracy Action Plan, the ProtectEU Strategy, and the forthcoming European Democracy Shield – PERISCOPE delivers its activities through 26 work packages organised into four thematic clusters: capacity-building (toolkits, SLAPP legal training, youth and educator modules); public awareness campaigns targeting gender, minorities, and crisis narratives; youth fact-checker networks supported by AI-assisted monitoring; and policy dialogues and cross-sector knowledge exchange.
The project expects to train at least 500 individuals directly and reach over 50.000 citizens through awareness campaigns, producing multilingual, open-access resources designed to be adaptable across the European context.
