Dr Loukia Taxitari, Editor-in-Chief, Fact Check Cyprus

Loukia Taxitari is a Lecturer in Experimental Psychology in the Department of Psychology at Neapolis University Paphos, Cyprus. In 2009, she earned her PhD in Experimental Psychology, and in 2004, her Master’s degree in General Linguistics from the University of Oxford. She specializes in language acquisition and development, as well as various methods to study them. She has worked as a postdoctoral researcher in Germany (University of Potsdam), Cyprus (University of Cyprus and Cyprus University of Technology), and Italy (CNR, Pisa), applying diverse research methods to the study of language across different populations. 

Since 2020 and the Covid pandemic, she has been involved in fact-checking activities in Cyprus, and since November 2023 she has been the Editor-in-Chief of the Centre Against Misinformation Fact Check Cyprus established in the Social Computing Research Centre of the Cyprus University of Technology. The Centre focuses on combatting misinformation through both fact checking and media literacy activities and to this end, apart from writing fact checks, she delivers regular presentations to the general public and various stakeholders on the island.

Neville Borg, Fact Checker, Times of Malta

Neville Borg has led Times of Malta’s fact-checking work over the past two years, working to debunk mis and disinformation in Malta. Before entering the world of journalism, he worked as a researcher across various fields, including culture and the arts, health, economics and media.

Ana Romero, EU DisinfoLab

Ana Romero works as a researcher at EU DisinfoLab, where she analyses and counters disinformation from different angles. She is apprised of the Spanish disinformation landscape and has published several international investigations on the monetisation of disinformation. She currently addresses mis/disinformation about climate change and monitors audio-visual social networks such as YouTube and TikTok. With a master’s degree in Journalism, Ana’s professional profile has always been very versatile. She has worked as a financial journalist, has been involved in EU Election Observation Missions and worked as a communication expert for EU-funded projects during her stay of 14 years in Brussels.
